The CEO of the MTR Corporation, which in addition to being Hong Kong’s leading transport provider is also one of its biggest property developers, Jacob Kam has worked for the company since 1995. He took over the top job in 2019, since when the MTR has completed a landmark new project, the Sha Tin to Central Link, including the new Exhibition Centre station.

Kam began working for the company in a range of managerial positions in areas including operations and new projects before becoming general manager of the company’s Shenzhen subsidiary in 2005, responsible for Line 4 of the Shenzhen Metro. He became the MTRC’s chief of operations, engineering in 2007, its operations director in 2011 and its managing director, operations and mainland China in 2016. He has said that his focus is on digitisation, and using it to providing integrated transport services.

Before joining the MTRC, he was head of structural safety for government body the Health and Safety Executive in the UK, and before that he was a lecturer at UCL in London, from which he also received his PhD in mechanical engineering. He is a council member of The Hong Kong Management Association and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong; an honorary chairman of the International Association of Public Transport; and a director of The Community Chest of Hong Kong and the General Committee of The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.
